The New York Area Biodiversity Research and Conservation Database (NYBD)
project is a unique collaboration between the Center
for Environmental Research and Conservation (CERC), Nurture
New York’s Nature (NNYN), and the Center for
International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN).
|

CERC is an unrivaled consortium of five world class scientific institutions with longstanding experience in the greater New York
region: Columbia University, the American Museum of Natural History, The New York Botanical Garden, Wildlife Conservation Society,
and Wildlife Trust. |
 NNYN is a not-for-profit
foundation dedicated to creating public awareness of the importance of nurturing New York's nature for the health and
well being of the City's inhabitants. It creates awareness by publishing books and other educational materials, creating
websites, sponsoring lectures and conferences, conducting publicity campaigns, conducting research, and forming strategic
alliances with other organizations to accomplish its mission. |
CIESIN, a research unit of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, works at the
intersection of the social, natural, and information sciences. The unit specializes in online data and information management, spatial data integration and
training, and interdisciplinary research related to human interactions in the environment. CIESIN designed and created the interactive website, online
database, and mapping tools for the NYBD.
The development of NYBD at CIESIN was funded by generous support from the Center for Environmental Research and
Conservation (CERC) at Columbia University, and the
NBII Northeast Node and its parent program, the
Center for Biological Informatics
of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
